The trail continues climbing steadily toward the Shira Plateau at approximately 3,840 metres. As you gain altitude, Kibo and Mawenzi peaks become increasingly impressive.

Today is one of the most important acclimatization days of the trek. You cross the Shira Plateau and gradually ascend toward Lava Tower at approximately 4,600 metres.
The landscape changes into a dramatic alpine desert, characterized by volcanic rock, sparse vegetation, and spectacular mountain scenery. After reaching Lava Tower, you take time to rest and have lunch before beginning the descent toward Barranco Camp.
The descent helps your body adapt to the altitude as you move lower to approximately 3,960 metres. Along the way, you pass through the impressive Barranco Valley, surrounded by cliffs and giant senecio plants.
Barranco Camp sits beneath the famous Barranco Wall, providing a spectacular setting for your evening and preparing you for the next day’s climb.

After reaching the top of the wall, the trail continues through a series of valleys and ridges across the alpine desert. The gradual ascent provides another valuable opportunity for acclimatization.
You eventually reach Karanga Camp at approximately 4,100 metres, where you enjoy dinner and a well-earned rest while preparing for the final approach to Barafu Camp.

Upon reaching Barafu Camp at approximately 4,600 metres, you have an early dinner and prepare your equipment for the summit attempt. Your guides provide a briefing about the night’s climb, including pacing, hydration, and safety procedures.

The summit day begins around midnight. After a light meal, you set off into the darkness under headlamps, slowly ascending the steep slopes toward Stella Point.
The climb is physically demanding due to the altitude, cold temperatures, and thin air, but your guides maintain a steady pace to help conserve energy.
At sunrise, you reach Stella Point on the crater rim. From here, the trail continues around the rim toward Uhuru Peak.
At 5,895 metres, Uhuru Peak is the highest point in Africa. Take a moment to celebrate your achievement and enjoy the extraordinary views across the summit landscape before beginning the descent.
You descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest and refreshments before continuing down toward Mweka Camp. This is a long and demanding day, but reaching the summit makes it the defining moment of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
